14-Days Rwanda-Uganda Luxury Gorilla Habituation

Enjoy a delicious breakfast early in the morning at a classic hotel in Kigali, after, meet your experienced driver guide for briefing about the combined safari in Uganda and Rwanda. After, embark on Kigali city excursion with key focus to visit Gisozi/Kigali genocide memorial site, local markets most especially Kirimonko market and you proceed to Volcanoes N/Park in Ruhengeri, Northwestern Rwanda.

After an early breakfast in the morning, transfer to Kinigi offices of Volcanoes N/Park for briefing. This is a special day when you will visit mountain gorillas in the wild, and the actual trek begins at 8:00am with park guide leading your group that consists of 8 visitors. It takes a long day, about 2-6 hours before you find gorillas and visitors are guaranteed of 1 hour for close encounter upon locating them.

After photography and in depth learning about their daily behaviors, get back to the lodge for relaxation and late lunch. In the evening, you may end the day with Iby’Iwacu cultural tour -get to learn more about Rwandese cultures, practices and traditions.

Wake up early to enjoy a leisurely breakfast, after, check out of the lodge and be transferred to Rushaga region via Chanika border to Kisoro. Arrive early and check in at your accommodation. Rushaga has 9 gorilla families all open for visitors to explore in a day, and it here where your gorilla habituation will be done.

Kutu gorilla family is a group set for gorilla habituation experience and this will be explored while at Rushaga sector. You will spend at least full day following gorilla group, exploring more about their daily behaviors, taking photos and even naming them. Today being a long day adventure, leave the lodge with packed lunch to enjoy in the jungles and after your interaction with mountain gorillas, get back for relaxation at the lodge.

Travel from Rushaga sector to Lake Bunyonyi, located in Kabale. Lake Bunyonyi is the deepest of the lakes Uganda is known to have and it is also one of the world’s few with no crocodiles, making it the best for swimming. 29 islands are all found on this spectacular lake and this trip gives you a chance to visit one or two the next day.

After a tasty cup of tea/coffee, leave the lodge ready to start your canoe trek on Lake Bunyonyi. The canoe ride includes visit to the Punishment Island and this is one of the spectacular 29 islands found in this lake alone. This excursion will also get you the best sight of little birds and splendid view of the surrounding. Evening activity include Batwa cultural experience where you will get insight into Batwa pygmies’ unique cultures, traditions, and get entertained by their dances, music performances.

Transfer from Lake Bunyonyi to Queen Elizabeth N. Park with en-route game drive at Ishasha where you will catch a glimpse of the tree climbing lions. Proceed to the prebooked lodges for evening relaxation and overnight stay.

Enjoy a hefty breakfast early in the morning after, set off before sunrise to explore Kasenyi plains on the morning game drive. A game drive along this game track takes 2-3 hours, and it gets you exposed to a huge profusion of wildlife such as elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, birds, warthogs, plenty of antelopes, hyenas and more.

At 2pm, expect to spend 2-3 hours on a boat tour along Kazinga channel. This allows you enjoy sight of hippos, crocodiles, birds and other mammals like elephants, buffaloes that to cool their bodies at the shores.

A cup of African tea/coffee, and after, check out of the lodge and drive to Kibale National Park located in Kabarole district. Enjoy en-route scenic Crater Lake views and vast banana plantations. Arrive early to check in at the primate tour lodge for relaxation, lunch and later transfer to Bigodi Wetland for nature walk.

After early breakfast back at the lodge, connect to Kanyanchu for briefing about your full day chimpanzee habituation experience and rules to be followed. Leave at 6:00am for actual search for semi-habituated chimpanzee community in Kibale, home to over 1500 chimpanzees, plus additional 12 primate species which will be spotted along the way. Lunch will be enjoyed in the jungles and you will be guaranteed of plenty of time to take pictures then get back to relax at the lodge.

After breakfast, leave Kibale for Hoima, drive via Fort Portal, the tourism city of Uganda. Overnight stay at a classic hotel in Hoima city, northwestern Uganda and preferably Kabalega Resort/Hoima Resort Hotel.

After breakfast, transfer to Murchison Falls National Park, the biggest park in Uganda and you will settle for a leisurely lunch. At 2pm, set off for a game drive to see elephants, buffaloes, antelopes like oribis, hartebeest, Kobs, etc, giraffes, warthogs, lions, leopards, and more.

Game driving through Murchison Falls N/Park early in the morning starting at 6:00am and this will go for 2-3 hours. More wildlife will be viewed in addition to the previous list you during the afternoon game drive and they include buffaloes, the Rothschild giraffes, elephants, lions, leopard, antelopes, bird species and many more. Return to enjoy a leisurely lunch, after, continue for a 2pm boat trip along the Nile heading to the base of the falls. The afternoon boat cruise on Victoria Nile of Murchison Falls NP will reward you with incredible views of hippos, crocodiles, birds.

After breakfast, you will drive to the top of the falls to observe this natural wonder of the world as it squeezes itself into a narrow rock of about 7-8 meters. It then plunges about 43 meters down forming a permanent rainbow and powerful roar, which you can even hear at a distance. After photography on top of the falls, drive back to Entebbe Airport or hotel and today marks the end of 14-day Rwanda Uganda gorilla & chimpanzee habituation experience.
