Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

After breakfast, you will meet the Kilisuma Adventures mountain team and drive to Marangu Gate, where registration with Kilimanjaro National Park is completed.

Your Kilimanjaro trek begins through the lush tropical rainforest. The trail gradually climbs through dense vegetation filled with giant ferns, moss covered trees and beautiful mountain plants.

Wildlife sightings are possible along the way, particularly blue monkeys and black and white colobus monkeys.

After approximately four to five hours of trekking, you will arrive at Mandara Hut, situated at around 2,720 meters.

If time and weather conditions allow, you may take a short walk toward Maundi Crater, where clear conditions can provide excellent views toward northern Tanzania and Kenya.

You will return to Mandara Hut for dinner and your first night on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

After breakfast at Mandara Hut, you will continue climbing toward Horombo Hut.

The vegetation gradually changes as you leave the rainforest and enter Kilimanjaro's open moorland zone.

During the hike, you may begin to see impressive views of Mawenzi Peak and Kibo Peak, the two major volcanic cones visible from the Marangu Route.

The trail passes through areas containing unique high altitude plants including giant groundsels and giant lobelias.

You will eventually reach Horombo Hut at approximately 3,720 meters.

After arriving, you can relax, enjoy a warm meal and prepare for the following day's climb toward the alpine desert.

Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

After breakfast, the trek continues toward Kibo Hut.

Today you will climb higher into a much drier landscape as vegetation becomes increasingly limited.

The trail passes through the Saddle, a wide alpine desert area located between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.

You will experience dramatic mountain scenery as you approach the base of Kibo.

The pace will remain slow and controlled to help your body adjust to the increasing altitude.

After approximately five to seven hours, you will arrive at Kibo Hut at around 4,703 meters.

Dinner will normally be served early because the summit climb begins around midnight.

After preparing your summit clothing, headlamp, water and other essential equipment, you should rest as much as possible before the final ascent.

Day 4: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut

This is the most challenging and rewarding day of your Kilimanjaro adventure.

You will normally wake around midnight for a light meal before starting the summit climb.

The ascent is slow and steady as you climb over loose volcanic scree toward Gilman's Point at approximately 5,681 meters, located on the rim of the Kibo crater.

Reaching Gilman's Point is already a major achievement.

From here, you will continue around the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the highest point in Africa.

Weather permitting, you may witness an unforgettable sunrise over the surrounding landscape, glaciers and distant plains.

After taking photographs and celebrating at the summit, you will begin descending back toward Kibo Hut.

At Kibo Hut, you will have time to rest and eat before continuing your descent to Horombo Hut.

You will spend your final night on the mountain at Horombo Hut.

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

After breakfast, you will begin the final descent through the moorland toward Mandara Hut.

From Mandara, you will continue through the beautiful rainforest toward Marangu Gate.

The trail becomes increasingly green and humid as you descend to lower elevation.

After reaching the gate, you will complete the required park procedures.

Successful climbers normally receive their official Kilimanjaro summit certificate.

The Kilisuma Adventures team will then transfer you from Marangu Gate to your hotel or agreed drop off location.

This marks the end of your 5 Days Marangu Route Kilimanjaro Climb.
