5 Days Serengeti Safari Camping Expedition

In the morning, your safari guide will pick you up from your Arusha accommodation. The drive on a well-maintained tarmac road crosses the scenic Maasai plains, dotted with acacia trees. Along the way, you'll observe Maasai people in vibrant attire walking, cycling, herding cattle, and driving donkey carts.

Tarangire is renowned for its vast elephant herds. From the open-roof vehicle, take in the seasonal swamps, savannahs, and the Tarangire River. You'll explore the diverse wildlife, including zebras, wildebeest, buffalos, elephants, and giraffes. Keep an eye out for lions on the prowl or leopards lounging in the trees. After an extensive game drive, you'll exit the park and head to a nearby campsite. Nestled among trees with playful monkey troops, enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in this picturesque setting.

After breakfast, you'll head towards the fertile highlands where the Iraqw people cultivate wheat, coffee, and corn. You'll traverse the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, featuring the stunning Ngorongoro caldera formed by a volcanic explosion three million years ago.

Witness the breathtaking expanse of the caldera before continuing to the Serengeti National Park, reaching it by midday. The Serengeti, meaning 'Endless Plain' in Maa, the Maasai language, is Tanzania's largest park, boasting diverse landscapes—grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannah, and mountains.

Experience the grandeur of the largest wildebeest and zebra migration, with the chance to witness thousands of animals in search of food and water, depending on the season. Following an extensive game drive, you will head to your campsite for dinner and an overnight stay.

Enjoy a half-day game drive in Serengeti National Park. Before departing, stop at the Serengeti Visitor’s Center to learn more about the park and explore short trails where you may spot wildlife up close, including rock or tree hyrax, porcupines, and lizards. Afterward, you’ll have lunch, exit the park, and continue your journey to the Ngorongoro Highlands for dinner and an overnight stay at Ngorongoro Simba Campsite.

After an early breakfast, you will enter the Ngorongoro Crater on a steep and narrow road. The slopes are forested, but the landscape changes to savannah dotted with the occasional acacia tree. The wildlife here is breathtaking, and if you are lucky, you might spot the Big Five: lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard. The crater is also home to warthogs, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, hyenas, and many more. After a morning full of game viewing and a picnic lunch, you will leave the crater in the afternoon and head to Arusha.

The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest volcanic caldera, formed during the massive explosion of the volcano once higher than Kilimanjaro some 2 to 3 million years ago. The crater has a total area of 304 km², a depth of 600 m, and a diameter of 20 km.

After the wonderful game viewing in the Ngorongoro Crater, you will drive to your accommodation.

This day will take you to the paradise of the primates and aquatic birds. Lake Manyara National Park offers breathtaking views and a wide variety of habitats, such as acacia woodlands and groundwater forests. The park is very small but can support a large number of animal species and incredible bird life. It has a high concentration of baboons, giraffes, elephants, and impalas, and the lions here are known for their tree climbing.

After a great game viewing at Lake Manyara National Park, you will drive to Arusha for a drop-off at your lodge, booked by you.
