After breakfast, you will meet the Kilisuma Adventures mountain team and drive to Machame Gate for registration and final preparation.
The trek begins through Kilimanjaro's lush tropical rainforest.
The trail climbs steadily through dense vegetation, giant ferns and moss covered trees. Depending on the conditions, you may see blue monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys and different bird species.
After several hours of trekking, you will arrive at Machame Camp at approximately 3,000 meters.
Your mountain crew will prepare dinner while you relax and enjoy your first evening on Mount Kilimanjaro.
Elevation: 3,000 m to 3,850 m
Distance: Approximately 5 km
Hiking Time: 4–6 hours
Habitat: Moorland
Accommodation: Shira Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
After breakfast, you will leave the rainforest and enter the open moorland zone.
The trail becomes steeper as you climb higher toward the Shira Plateau.
Along the way, you can enjoy increasingly wide views across the surrounding landscape and, in clear weather, excellent views of Kibo Peak.
You will continue across rocky ridges before reaching Shira Camp at approximately 3,850 meters.
The afternoon can be used for rest and acclimatization while enjoying the unique scenery of the Shira Plateau.

Distance: Approximately 10 km
Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Accommodation: Barranco Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Today is an important acclimatization day.
After breakfast, you will climb gradually toward Lava Tower at approximately 4,600 meters.
The landscape becomes increasingly dry and rocky as you enter the alpine desert zone.
You will normally have lunch around Lava Tower before beginning the descent toward Barranco Camp.
This day follows an important acclimatization principle: climb high and sleep low.
After descending into the Barranco Valley, you will arrive at Barranco Camp at approximately 3,950 meters.
The camp offers dramatic views of the Barranco Wall and, in clear weather, the summit area of Kilimanjaro.
Elevation: 3,950 m to 4,673 m
Distance: Approximately 9 km
Hiking Time: 7–9 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Accommodation: Barafu Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
After breakfast, you will begin one of the most exciting sections of the Machame Route by climbing the famous Barranco Wall.
Although the wall looks intimidating from camp, it is not a technical climb. Your guides will assist you through the steeper sections.
After reaching the top, you will enjoy beautiful views before descending into the Karanga Valley.
The trail continues past Karanga Camp and then climbs gradually toward Barafu Camp at approximately 4,673 meters.
Barafu is your final camp before the summit attempt.
Dinner will be served early, and your guide will give you a summit briefing.
You should organize your warm clothing, headlamp, water and essential equipment before resting.
Elevation: 4,673 m to 5,895 m, then descend to approximately 3,100 m
Distance: Approximately 17 km
Hiking Time: 11–15 hours

This is the most challenging and rewarding day of the climb.
You will normally wake around midnight for a light meal before beginning the final ascent.
The trail climbs slowly through loose volcanic scree toward Stella Point at approximately 5,756 meters on the crater rim.
After reaching Stella Point, you will continue around the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters.
Uhuru Peak is the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the highest point in Africa.
Weather permitting, you may enjoy an unforgettable sunrise and spectacular views of Kilimanjaro's glaciers and surrounding landscapes.
After celebrating and taking photographs, you will begin descending back to Barafu Camp.
After a short rest and meal, you will continue descending toward Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.
Elevation: Approximately 3,100 m to 1,640 m
Distance: Approximately 10 km
Hiking Time: 3–5 hours
Habitat: Montane Rainforest
Accommodation: Not included on the mountain
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
After breakfast, you will begin the final descent through Kilimanjaro's rainforest.
The trail may be wet and slippery, particularly during the rainy season, so trekking poles can be helpful.
After approximately three to five hours, you will reach Mweka Gate.
At the gate, successful climbers will complete the necessary park procedures and normally receive their official Kilimanjaro summit certificate.
The Kilisuma Adventures team will then transfer you from Mweka Gate to your hotel or agreed drop off location.
This marks the end of your 6 Days Machame Route Kilimanjaro Climb.
