Accommodation is provided exclusively at designated campsites, using comfortable two-person basecamp tents. The ascent follows the scenic Machame Route, while the descent is via the Mweka Route. The trek can be completed in a minimum of 6 days, although an additional acclimatization day is highly recommended to improve comfort, adaptation to altitude, and the overall chance of reaching the summit successfully. This route is known for its high summit success rate when trekked with proper preparation and acclimatization.

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our transfer team will be ready to welcome you and provide a comfortable transfer to Kili Cottages in Moshi. Here, you will meet your experienced mountain guide and attend a comprehensive pre-climb briefing. Our adventure specialists will ensure you are fully prepared for the trek, including reviewing the itinerary, equipment, safety procedures, and any final preparations. You will then enjoy a relaxing overnight stay at Kilimanjaro White House before beginning your Kilimanjaro adventure the following day.
After breakfast, drive from Moshi to Machame Gate, approximately 50 minutes, where you will complete registration and prepare for the trek. The hike begins through the lush montane rainforest along a winding trail, with some muddy and slippery sections. As you gradually ascend, the forest transitions into the heather and moorland zone. After several hours of trekking, you will arrive at Machame Camp at around 3,000–3,048 meters, where you will enjoy dinner, relax, and spend the night in your tent.
Heather & Moorland zone 5-7 hours trek – 7km
After breakfast, you'll leave the glades of the rain forest and continue on an ascending path, crossing the little valley, walking along a steep rocky ridge, covered with heather, until the ridge ends. The route now turns west onto a river gorge at 3,658 meters. You'll have time for rest, dinner, and an overnight stay at the Shira campsite. For acclimatization purposes, some parties stay here.
From the Shira Plateau, you will continue eastward before turning southeast toward Lava Tower, also known as the “Shark’s Tooth,” at approximately 4,600 meters. After exploring the area, the trail descends toward Barranco Camp at 3,860 meters. Although you finish the day at a lower elevation than the highest point reached, this climb-high, sleep-low experience is essential for acclimatization. Upon arrival at Barranco Camp, you will rest, enjoy dinner, and spend the night in your tent.
After breakfast, you will leave Barranco Camp and ascend the impressive Barranco Wall before continuing through the Karanga Valley at approximately 4,200 meters. The trail then joins the Mweka Route before continuing upward to Barafu Camp at around 4,600 meters. This marks the completion of the Southern Circuit, offering spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s summit from different angles, including the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo. At Barafu Camp, you will rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the final summit ascent. This stage may also be divided into two days to allow for additional acclimatization and rest.
You will begin the summit attempt in the early hours of the morning, ascending through the alpine desert and snow-covered terrain toward Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters, the highest point in Africa. The ascent takes approximately 6 hours, with temperatures extremely cold before sunrise but becoming warmer as the day progresses, so proper layering is essential. Upon reaching the summit, you will have time to celebrate, take photos, and enjoy breathtaking views before beginning the descent to Mweka Camp at approximately 3,100 meters. The descent takes around 5 hours and involves loose gravel, making gaiters and trekking poles highly recommended. After arriving at camp, you will rest, enjoy your final dinner on the mountain, and spend the night in your tent. rewrite
After breakfast, you will begin your final descent through the heather, moorland, and montane forest zones toward Mweka Park Gate. The trail can be wet and muddy at lower elevations, so gaiters and trekking poles are recommended. Once you reach Mweka Village, our vehicle will meet you and transfer you back to Kili Cottages in Moshi, where you can relax and celebrate your successful Kilimanjaro climb. An additional acclimatization day at Karanga Camp (4,035 m), typically added on Day 4 of the six-day climb, is highly recommended. For those seeking a more adventurous experience, a visit to Crater Camp can also be added to explore the spectacular ash pit.
