Your day begins early, with arrival at the Dar es Salaam SGR station by 5:30 AM for check-in and boarding. The train departs promptly at 6:00 AM and offers a comfortable 1.5-hour journey to Morogoro, complete with air conditioning, Wi-Fi (in VIP class), and scenic views of the countryside.
You will arrive at Morogoro around 7:30 AM, where your safari driver-guide will be waiting to pick you up in a 4x4 vehicle. The drive from Morogoro to Mikumi National Park takes approximately 1.5 hours, passing through beautiful mountain views and local villages along the way. You’ll reach the park gate by about 9:30 AM and begin your first game drive immediately, exploring the park’s main wildlife circuits including Mkata floodplain and Chamgore (also known as the “hippo pool”).
Around 12:30 PM, you will stop for a bush picnic lunch inside the park usually at one of the designated safe picnic spots with natural surroundings. After lunch, the game drive continues through the afternoon, giving you a chance to catch animals that may have been hiding during the morning heat.
