Embark on an extraordinary 8-day Mount Kilimanjaro trek via the Lemosho Route, one of the most scenic and rewarding routes to the Roof of Africa.
The Lemosho Route is renowned for its beautiful landscapes, quieter trails during the early stages, gradual ascent and excellent opportunities for acclimatization. Over eight days, you will journey from the remote western slopes of Kilimanjaro through lush rainforest, spectacular heath and moorland, high-altitude volcanic landscapes and finally the Arctic Zone surrounding the summit.
From Wilderness to the Roof of Africa
Your adventure begins on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro, where the trail starts in a remote and beautiful wilderness environment.
As you gain altitude, the scenery transforms dramatically:
Rainforest ? Heath & Moorland ? Alpine Desert ? Arctic Zone
Along the way, you will experience spectacular valleys, volcanic formations, dramatic ridgelines and breathtaking views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding Tanzanian landscape.
A Route Built for Acclimatization
The 8-day Lemosho itinerary provides valuable time to adapt to the increasing altitude while maintaining a steady and manageable pace.
The route follows the important principle of “climb high, sleep low,” particularly around Lava Tower and Barranco, helping your body gradually adjust to the mountain environment.

On clear days, you may begin to see the magnificent Kibo Peak, the highest volcanic cone of Kilimanjaro.
Arrive at Shira 1 Camp, settle into your tent and enjoy dinner.
Spend the evening resting and allowing your body to begin adapting to the increasing altitude.

Walk across the Shira Plateau, one of Kilimanjaro's most beautiful high-altitude environments.
The landscape is wide, open and dramatic, with volcanic formations and enormous views toward Kibo.
Your guide will maintain a slow and comfortable pace while monitoring how you are adapting to the altitude.
Arrive at Shira 2 Camp, where you will have lunch, relax and enjoy the mountain atmosphere.
Depending on your energy and weather conditions, your guide may organize a short acclimatization walk around the camp.
Enjoy dinner and prepare for the next stage of the journey.
Today is about acclimatization, scenery and building strength for the summit.

Trekking Time: 6–8 hours
Altitude: 3,850 m ? 4,630 m ? 3,960 m
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Overnight: Barranco Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Climb High, Sleep Low
Today is one of the most important acclimatization days on the 8-day Lemosho Route.
After breakfast, begin climbing toward Lava Tower, reaching approximately 4,630 metres.
As you ascend, the landscape becomes increasingly rugged and barren. Vegetation becomes sparse and volcanic rocks dominate the scenery.
At Lava Tower, you will have time to rest and enjoy lunch.
Then comes the important descent toward Barranco Camp.
This follows the proven acclimatization principle:
Climb High. Sleep Low.
Your body experiences the higher altitude during the day before descending to a lower elevation to sleep.
Barranco Valley
The approach to Barranco is spectacular.
The enormous Barranco Wall rises dramatically above the valley, creating one of the most recognizable scenes on Kilimanjaro.
Arrive at Barranco Camp and enjoy dinner while surrounded by dramatic volcanic cliffs.
Today you climbed higher — tomorrow you climb stronger.
Distance: ~5 km
Trekking Time: 4–5 hours
Altitude: 3,960 m ? 4,035 m
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Overnight: Karanga Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Conquer the Barranco Wall
After breakfast, begin one of the most exciting sections of the Lemosho Route: the climb up the famous Barranco Wall.
From below, the wall may appear intimidating, but your experienced guide will lead you carefully through the route.
Some sections require simple scrambling using your hands for balance.
Once you reach the top, enjoy breathtaking views across the valleys and toward the summit.
Continue along the trail toward Karanga Camp.
Today's shorter distance gives you valuable time to rest, hydrate and prepare for the higher elevations ahead.
Arrive at camp, enjoy lunch and spend the afternoon relaxing.
The summit is getting closer with every step.
Distance: ~4 km
Trekking Time: 4–5 hours
Altitude: 4,035 m ? 4,640 m
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Overnight: Barafu Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
The Final Camp Before Uhuru Peak
After breakfast, begin your final daytime climb toward Barafu Camp.
The trail becomes increasingly rocky and the vegetation almost disappears.
You are now deep within Kilimanjaro's high-altitude environment.
Arrive at Barafu Camp, located at approximately 4,640 metres.
Your mountain crew will prepare your meal while your guide conducts a summit briefing.
You will receive important instructions about:
Summit clothing
Hydration
Trekking pace
Headlamp preparation
Altitude awareness
Summit timing
Emergency procedures
Enjoy an early dinner and try to sleep as much as possible.
You will wake during the night for the most important climb of your life.
Tomorrow: Uhuru Peak.
Tonight, you rest at the gateway to the Roof of Africa.

SUMMIT DAY — CONQUER UHURU PEAK
This is the day you have been preparing for.
You will normally begin your summit attempt around midnight, depending on weather, trail conditions and your guide's assessment.
Under the stars, begin the slow and steady climb toward Stella Point.
The air is thin, temperatures are extremely cold and every step requires determination.
Your guide will maintain a controlled pole pole pace while monitoring your condition.
Sunrise on Kilimanjaro
As the darkness begins to fade, the horizon slowly turns golden.
If conditions allow, you may witness a spectacular sunrise from the upper slopes of Kilimanjaro.
Continue along the crater rim toward your ultimate goal.
UHURU PEAK — 5,895 METRES
THE ROOF OF AFRICA
You have made it.
Stand at the highest point in Tanzania and the highest summit in Africa.
Celebrate your achievement, take photographs and enjoy this extraordinary moment.
You have climbed through forests, crossed volcanic landscapes, endured high altitude and pushed yourself beyond your comfort zone.
You dreamed it. You climbed it. You conquered it.
Descending the Mountain
After celebrating at Uhuru Peak, begin your descent.
Return toward Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down toward Mweka Camp.
The descent is long, so your guide will maintain a safe and controlled pace.
As you lose altitude, breathing becomes easier and the environment gradually changes.
Arrive at Mweka Camp, enjoy dinner and rest.
Tonight, sleep knowing that you stood on the Roof of Africa.
Distance: ~10 km
Trekking Time: 3–4 hours
Altitude: 3,080 m ? 1,640 m

The Final Descent
