Depart from Gondar in the morning and drive to Debark, the gateway to Simien Mountains National Park. After completing park formalities and meeting your trekking crew, continue deeper into the mountains toward Sankaber.
Begin your first acclimatization hike along the escarpment edge, where massive cliffs fall dramatically into the valleys below. This area is well known for large groups of gelada baboons, often grazing close to the hiking trails.
The cool mountain air, sweeping highland scenery, and first views across the Simien range provide a strong introduction to the expedition.
After breakfast, continue trekking through rolling highland terrain toward the Jinbar Valley. Descend carefully toward Jinbar River before reaching the impressive Jinbar Waterfall, where water plunges into a deep gorge surrounded by steep cliffs.
The route offers increasing altitude and wider mountain panoramas, with opportunities to observe endemic bird species and, occasionally, the rare Walia ibex along the rocky slopes.
Continue onward to Gich Camp, located in open alpine terrain with expansive sunset views over the surrounding mountains.
Today’s route is considered one of the most scenic trekking days in the Simien Mountains.
Trek toward Imet Gogo viewpoint, a spectacular natural balcony offering uninterrupted 360-degree views across jagged ridges, volcanic cliffs, and vast valleys stretching deep into northern Ethiopia.
As altitude increases, the landscape becomes more rugged and dramatic. Continue through highland plateaus and rocky mountain paths toward Chennek, passing several panoramic viewpoints including Innateye.
This region is one of the best wildlife observation areas in the park and offers strong chances of spotting Walia ibex in their natural habitat.
Start early for a challenging hike toward Mount Bwahit, one of the highest peaks in the Simien range. The trail climbs through steep alpine terrain with rewarding mountain scenery throughout the ascent.
From higher viewpoints, enjoy distant views toward Ras Dashen, Ethiopia’s highest mountain. The surrounding cliffs and ridges create some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in East Africa.
After descending back to Chennek, meet your vehicle and begin the drive back to Gondar, concluding your Simien Mountains trekking adventure.
